It wants to appeal to those annoying **** that act as if everyone is a terrible person and we should just commit genocide because isn't that just such a mature, thought provoking, well thought out idea? Yeah you can not convince me that the devs of this game have ever had a normal conversation with another person outside of circle jerking with other edgy kids on **** about how much they hate the world. Edgy isn't quite the right word to describe it. The controls suck, the shooting feels completely unsatisfying and lacking in impact, the difficulty is massively inflated because the developers just thought 'oh yeah let's just throw **** a bazillion enemies in' and the gameplay loop is so boring, uninspired and repetitive that I think I would rather play Hunt Down the Freeman. I mean downright insulting to your intelligence. I don't mean offensive or shocking or anything like that.

I mean downright Hatred is one of the most insulting games of all time. Hatred is one of the most insulting games of all time. Two points: one for graphs, one for bollocks-too bad it's not enough nowadays, huh? If I wanted to get off on killing virtual innocents, I'd actually play anything but Hatred. But here… Well, without story, that's hard to pull off. If you want to be thrilled with the killing of innocents, you have to make the player feel that they're innocents and don't deserve to die in pain. The poor poor innocents could be whatever you imagine them to be-pack of gums, stupid running bunch of pixels…-because they're as empty as the protagonist. Everything taken up to eleven doesn't make a game insanely enjoyable, it just hits Poe's law at high speed. Empty soulless uninteresting protagonist. Too bad the trailer is better than the game-and for a game, that's quite the achievement!-because that's not a game for adults, that's not a Too bad the trailer is better than the game-and for a game, that's quite the achievement!-because that's not a game for adults, that's not a game as we know it today. If you are content with some (ironically overplayed) angsty monologues, a tough but mechanically mediocre shooter and some execution scenes that quickly lose their bite, despite (or because of) ridiculous amounts of blood, pick this up on a Steam sale. If you were hoping for the isometric shooter to end all isometric shooters or for the one game that redefines gore and damage models in video games, you will be sorely disappointed. Anybody who's ever played Soldier of Fortune 2 or seen a Mortal Kombat finishing move knows that this game is, in comparison, barely even graphic. The executions and brutality in the game are by no means extraordinary or particularly gruesome. The controversy that got the game so much attention turns out to be way out of proportion (as expected). A twin-stick shooter (if you're using a controller) that is relatively solid mechanics at the surface level but reveals more and more flaws the closer you look. A twin-stick shooter (if you're using a controller) that is relatively solid mechanics at the surface A very mediocre game, I'm afraid.
